Saturday Night Jail Cell

Shelley sat on the wooden stool, trembling as she spoke to the officer.
"Like, sir, I promise that I will, like, not do it again. I, like, promise!"
The officer shook his head and said dryly, "That's what they all say, sweetie."
He saw the look of despair on her face. "Besides, it's only a night in jail. Don't think too much about it."
Tears started forming in her eyes and she started stuttering, "P-p-please help me! I-i-if my parents ever, like, find out about this, they'll... they'll, like, kill me!"
The officer shrugged in response.
A guard came over to her and told her to follow him. She quietly followed him as he led her to a cell. There was a man and a woman sitting there. Shelley looked at the two with a confused face. One man was in his 30s and the other woman was in her 20s.
As the guard left, the woman snickered, "Why are you here? Did you throw a cup of Starbucks in some girl's face after she insulted your shoes?" The man chuckled at what the woman said.
Shelley didn't respond, her eyes wide with shock. The two stopped laughing and gawked at her.
"Wait a minute, this actually happened?"
Shelley shrugged and sat down on the bench. It was definitely a lot cleaner than she expected it to be. "What did you guys do to get in jail?"
The man sighed and replied, "It's a long story. Do you want to hear about it?" She nodded.
"I was on my way home from work enjoying everything when I heard a familiar cry. I looked around, wondering where the noise was coming from when I finally saw a child on the edge of a sidewalk. In disbelief, I realize that the crying was from my child, Nicholas. Her mother was nowhere in sight. I reminisced the confusion on taking care of the baby, the joy at when he started to walk and talk, and the great deal of pain when I found out that my wife had been cheating on me. I ran up to him asking where she was at the moment. The moment he saw me, he stopped crying and jumped up to hug me.
'Mommy just decided to leave me here... I'm not sure where she is.'
I immediately took him to a restaurant and we ate a little bit while we conversed. As I was paying the bill, his mother ran into the restaurant, pointed at me, and screamed, 'There's the person who took my child!'
I don't really remember what happened after that. All I remember is the look of sadness on Nicky's face and the anger that I felt after realizing that that wretched woman framed me."
The woman sitting next to him sighed loudly and said, "That's just tragic... I guess I'll start telling my little life story then. I was raped a little over a year ago by my step-father. When my mother found out that I was pregnant, she freaked out and kicked me out of her house. I had no money, no job, and I didn't even graduate college yet. One day, my baby was really sick. She was running a fever and I had no choice other than to steal some medicine from my neighbor. I did it and I got caught."
Shelley looked at the two with sadness. The guard opened the door and told her, "It's time to go." As she left the cell, she looked back at the two of them and said, "'Hope is a waking dream.'"

Thankful (For a Classmate)

I have experienced many friendships that come and go. Hopefully, there are some friendships that would last forever because the memories are amazing. Someone that I am thankful so far is Winnie Lee. This is the fourth year that I've known her and it feels like it has been a lot longer than that. I feel like if I never became acquainted with her, I would definitely have a different life. The question is whether or not that would have been a good thing or not.
I appreciate the different things that we both like and share. I'm somewhat irritated at the fact that we spend too much time on the phone doing nothing at all but it's just hilarious nonetheless. I definitely appreciate the fact that she introduced me to Phoenix Wright, which does consist of the majority of the phone calls nowadays. I also appreciate the fact that she puts up with all my stupidity. If I were her, I would have ditched myself quite a long time ago.
I like the rest of the class as well. They definitely do brighten my day, which is good since it's the first class.

"Then is he dead?"

In the beginning of the play, I pitied Macbeth for having to do many treacherous crimes towards everyone. As the play moved on, I realized that Macbeth was slowly starting to develop a large fear of someone going behind his back because he did the crimes. I'm going to be criticized quite a bit for this, but I think that if he really wanted to do this, I think he did a pretty good job of it. I mean, his wife, Lady Macbeth didn't do such a great job. I think that she killed herself because she was in guilt from doing all this and perhaps even past crimes. She freaked out pretty easily, if you ask me. Of course, I just want to say here that I don't think she would have committed suicide if she wasn't a female. I'm going to spark a lot of controversy, but it is so true. Many females have a tendency to be unable to control their feelings. I'm definitely giving credit to Macbeth for doing all these crimes, though. Not many people are willing to do so just so they can rule. Of course, the cost may not be as bad as it is today. If you killed someone incredibly important today, you would have a lot of people wanting to kill you and possibly the death penalty. If you killed someone just as important back then, you'd be reigning over land and have many people wanting to stab you to your death. If you ask me, I'd probably take the risk and reign because I'm not that scared of death. Of course, if the reward isn't as big as the cost, there would definitely be problems.

"And fill me, from the crown to the toe, top-full of direst cruelty!"

Around this point of the play, we are introduced to Lady Macbeth. We learn that she is incredibly different compared to her husband, seeing that she is willing to murder men so that her husband would reign over land as king. Her husband, Macbeth, is known to be "too full o' th' milk of human kindness", which pretty much means that he's just really nice and probably wouldn't hurt a mosquito. Although it would be different if the mosquito was trying to spread malaria throughout a town, then he'd probably slay it instantly without a care in the world, somewhat similar to when King Duncan was going to be overthrown by Macdonwald, the rebel who tried to kill him. Lady Macbeth tells the audience that she would pretty much do anything as long as she gets what she wants, which is to get her husband the crown. When she says "And fill me, from the crown to the toe, top-full of direst cruelty!" it sounds like she wants to become a man so she is able to do whatever it takes to get her husband the crown because women weren't really able to do much back then in the times. she wants to become cruel and evil so she can help Macbeth. I found this quite interesting because to be honest, Lady Macbeth scares me a little bit. She seems to take everything really darkly, but perhaps it is because she is really eager to have a higher power in society.

No New Tale to Tell

From reading the Pardoner's Tale, we realize that many people don't trust each other even though they act it. They might turn into backstabbers as time goes by and their greed grows. I do realize that money is usually one of the main reasons people have greed. Money is a useful thing to have. Many people don't have enough of it. Some people marry for money or status. Humans have a lot of pride, and they like to show off. Some try to pretend to be modest (the modest even like the attention), but on the inside is probably a bunch of pride swelling up. Some people don't even attempt to be modest and act incredibly conceited. For me, I'm incredibly proud of having my Nexus 4, which is probably the best phone ever that was created in 2012 (I'm saying this because the LG G2 seems amazing, but I love my Nexus 4 too much to admit it.) Love is probably another thing that people want, but probably don't get. That's where the Wife of Bath's Tale comes in. In her story, the knight ends up marrying a woman that he'd rather not marry, but realizes that he can only choose two things: beautiful and unfaithful or ugly and faithful. For some reason, I thought of Kim Kardasian while typing this. A decision many people don't like choosing is usually based around love. Some people are attracted to physical details, which is why they end up with a beautiful but unfaithful partner. I feel like females have always wanted some sort of dominance over males because the males have always been preferred over the females. Some mothers even go to certain extremes to kill their child if it turned out to be female! As the years go by, I find that females are slowly receiving more recognition. I don't know whether or not it's a good thing, but at least the females are getting to state their opinion.

Truth

I have a very biased view of this story. I think that Grendel is an innocent thing (since I'm still not sure about what creature he is) but slowly turns out to become somewhat evil because of his killing sprees. He is clearly misunderstood, and listening to the Shaper's lyrics doesn't really help him. He is convinced that he is a villain because he is blood related to Cain. This story is pretty much about how two sides completely misunderstand each other and how they try to kill each other to resolve it. Since I haven't finished the story yet, I can't say for sure whether or not who is doing the "right" thing. I think that I will finish the book thinking that they were both wrong in their doings and that it all ended terribly. The part where Grendel screams "Friend!" at the men made me incredibly sad. Honestly, I would probably have acted the same way as the men. I don't understand many thick accents, and I'm pretty sure Grendel had a thick accent, or at least a completely different dialect. I would have freaked out and tried to attack him. Grendel sure had an interesting entrance to the scene. It was quite amusing.

Modern Day Grendel

Whenever I think of Grendel, I think of him as a person more than a monster. I kind of believe that something has happened in his past that has made him become the person he is. Sure, he can be from Cain's bloodline, but it still doesn't mean that he can't be good.
Someone that reminds me of Grendel is Accelerator from the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun and the Toaru Majutsu no Index series (If you plan on watching the anime, don't read any further. I am going to put so many spoilers. You should watch it anyways.) He was first seen as one of the main antagonists, but slowly became one of the protagonists. Accelerator was introduced as the highest level 5 esper in Academy City, a place where mainly students live so they can improve their Psychic abilities. The purpose of Academy City was to create a level 6 esper. There was an experiment that involved killing exactly 20,000 level 3 clones of Misaka Mikoto, who is one of the level 5 espers (There are only 7 in the entire city.) He was able to destroy a majority of them until he was defeated by Touma, the main protagonist of the Toaru Majutsu no Index series. Accelerator then has some sort of mental breakdown. As he later finds out that they are trying to make the clones stronger in level so he can level up to 6 more quickly, he meets Last Order, who is considered a failure and is the weakest of the clones. He couldn't kill her and instead protected her until the very end. He ends up getting shot in the head trying to protect Last Order, making his esper abilities rely on a battery in order to fight. His past was soon revealed. He was taken to Academy City at a very young age and was discovered to have incredibly extraordinary powers. Due to this, many people have feared him and even tried to kill him. Since he was really strong as a child, he was experimented on by many scientists. He soon turned into a cruel sadist. When he meets Last Order, she claimed that he was trying to warn all of the other clones (they get smarter and smarter as he kills each clone because their brains synchronize with each other) that he was going to kill them and that they better get away. Accelerator even goes to say that "I’m the Strongest Level 5, I don’t need brats worrying about me. Listen, even if someone is suffering before you, the kind of person that can take up arms without hesitation to shoot down the villain is no better than a villain himself. The kind that doesn't care about others, doesn't give 2nd chances; someone that kills if given a reason, is definitely not a hero. You don’t have to become that kind of person. That’s my specialty. Only I have to go through that," which goes to say that he really wasn't a bad person from the beginning, but was pretty much created. I think the same goes for Grendel, but since we haven't read the story yet, I can't say for sure.
